How much CO2 and Pollution does PV save?
According to a report completed by the Department of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy U.S, an average household uses 830kWh of electricity per month. On average, if your home is producing 1000kWh of electricity and using Solar PV, this reduces emissions by 3.5 kilograms of sulfur dioxide, 2.25 kilograms of nitrogen oxides and 635 kilograms of carbon dioxide.
During the 28 years of clean energy production, a rooftop system with a 2 year energy payback and meeting half of a household’s energy needs would avoid conventional electrical-plant emissions equalling more than half a tonne of sulfur dioxide, one-third a tonne of nitrogen oxide and over 100 tonne of carbon dioxide. This is clearly a wise investment for the environment.
